Distress Centre Calgary provides crisis support, counselling, and peer support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Their mission is to bring people from surviving to thriving by providing access to compassionate support that puts health and wellbeing at the forefront when it comes to helping people in distress.
With help provided in over 200 languages via text, online chat, phone, and in person, Distress Centre Calgary engages over 152,000 people each year, over 44,000 of which are specific calls to crisis intervention.
Additionally, Distress Centre Calgary helps the local community through:
- ConnecTeen: a hotline specifically driven toward providing support to teenagers experiencing distress through peer support.
- 211 Alberta: supports 211 in Calgary and southern Alberta by operating a helpline and database to connect people to social services and counselling.
- Basic needs support: connecting people in need to housing and financial empowerment through the Safe Communities Opportunity and Resource Centre.
